The British/Colombian band are back with another awesome track, bridging the interesting gap between grunge, indie and synth-rock.
Their new single ‘Mean Rock n Roller’ is a statement to the stereotypes of society; a calling to those who feel pressured to do what the world tells them to.
With recent announcements from government about the arts industry needing retraining to secure jobs, their point may be as poignant as ever right now.
MeMe, the bands multi-talented vocalist, describes the track as ‘a bit of a tongue-in-cheek song that we had written as a bit of fun but at the same time says “f**k you” to the limiting beliefs that are pressed on us by society as we grow up.’
‘You can basically be, do or have anything you want in life when you put your mind to it, so never settle. It’s pointless’.
A strong message indeed, one that isn’t lessened in their new single either.
Immediately, the punchy guitar quicks in, giving the tune a real rock vibe. Coupled with the introduction of some raw vocals, this song is on to a winner from the beginning.
While the start might ease you in, there’s certainly no letting up after that. The vocals are uplifting and remain high-octane throughout, taking you back to the punk rock scene of the 1970’s.
However, it doesn’t stop there, in the second verse we’re treated to the full capability of MeMe‘s vocal range. She hits a number of high notes as well as belting out a chorus straight after with incredible accuracy.
Not to be outdone, the drumming from band member Kallum McEwen also deserves a mention. Acting as the songs second voice, the track oozes vibes of Adam Ant‘s single Stand and Deliver.
The whole track is filled with opinions regarding stereotypes and the struggle to be your own person. The whole tune is a great form of expression, embodied by the passion in the vocalist’s voice.
As Janice Long from BBC Radio puts it, ‘this is the kind of person you get jealous of because they’re an incredibly talented singer, multi-instrumentalist and composer’.
Just from listening to ‘Mean Rock n Roller’, you can see why the talented duo have over 200 gigs under their belt.
Thankfully, fans won’t have to wait much longer for the full release of their new track, with the single dropping of October 30th and a video being released on the 23rd.
All I can say is, you’re going to want to listen to this one.
