New Zealand born Merv Pinny has his routes in the world of country rock and roll, but his new single ‘Amazing’ shows a different side to the singer.
In a rather unfortunate early life, Merv‘s inspiration from music arose after his brother bought him a guitar. Understanably, you may be thinking ‘that doesn’t sound very unfortunate’?
However, the only reason Merv was gifted the present was because his brother ran him over in the first place!
The accidents didn’t stop there though. After being nominated for best country rock album at the New Zealand Vodafone Music Awards, he was back in hospital. This time, the artist had a broken back, with doctors fearing he’d never be able to walk again.
Thankfully he made a full recovery. With so many serious accidents under his belt, Merv decided to leave his old life behind and venture into the world of music.
With a huge focus on altruism, Merv‘s previous tracks have focused on the perils of social media; terrorism and the refugee crisis.
This time round, the artist is focusing on the perils of the last year and let me tell you, he doesn’t disappoint.
From the off, he gives us a taste of his country routes. The guitar backing riffs scream classic country. I wasn’t sure at first, but it’s not like any other Christmas song I’ve ever really heard, so it’s a ten out of ten for originality.
The joyous, upbeat guitar really aids in pushing his message of being thankful to all the ‘Amazing’ people the world has on the frontline during times of crisis.
For me, the best bit is that it isn’t over-produced. The rhythmic guitar matches brilliantly with Merv‘s raw, rough voice.
In these hard times, an uplifting track like this one is the way to go. If you want to give ‘Amazing’ by Merv Pinny a listen, follow the Spotify link
